Cascadia Folk Choir is an all-inclusive, beginner-friendly adult community choir & musical practice space inspired by the community singing & song circle traditions.
No audition or experience required.
This is a community practice space intended for all folk, no matter your singing experience or level of skill. Whether seasoned pro or “tone-deaf” (a myth, by the way) - you’re welcome here! All songs are taught by rote without sheet music.
No membership dues.
Cost shouldn’t be a barrier to singing together, especially in these times. We operate on a sliding-scale/pay-what-you-can model and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. Seriously.
No commitment necessary.
Cascadia Folk Choir has no attendance requirement. Come however often you’d like. Drop-ins welcome at any general rehearsal.
No mandatory performances.
Crippling stage fright? No problem! Performances are always optional. This a community practice space that prioritizes building musical skills and cultivating community over perfect performance. But if you’re into it, we put on super fun & interactive community-sing style concerts at the end of each season, and anyone is welcome to join as long as they can attend the additional mandatory concert prep rehearsals.
Song circle…..
-
Our goal is to ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience the magic of singing together, which means mitigating barriers to entry; including cost, time commitment, and experience or skill level requirements.
-
Inspired by the incredible music of the community singing revival, we teach circle songs, or what we've termed "emergent folk" repertoire - simple, singable songs by (recently) living artists that are a direct response to and in active relationship with the current state of the world (could be described as: healing, conscious, Gaian, or medicine music). Example artists include Laurence Cole, Shireen Amini, Ahlay Blakely, Alexa Sunshine Rose, and Lyndsey Scott.
meets choir!
-
Our dream is to create a musical home for everyday folks looking to practice singing and making music well together. We focus on just one song per rehearsal, giving us time to explore warm-up exercises, delve more deeply into the meaning of the song, and thoroughly learn the parts.
-
At the end of each season, our members are invited to participate in a community-sing style concert. These performances are optional and provide a wonderful opportunity for folks to experience stage time in an approachable way, wherein the audience learns the songs & sings along.
